Looking for any further information on the family of James Kennedy in Upperchurch and if anyone knows of any connection to a woman named Hanorah Anne Kennedy (also sometimes Honoria) who married Michael Ryan and whose children went to Australia.
James Kennedy and Elizabeth (Eliza) Meara had the following children:
1) Michael b. bef 1815
2) Morgan b. 1816 (baptism 7 Aug 1816 at Foilnacanony, Kilcommon, Tipperary, Ireland; Sponsors Bryan Kennedy and Margaret McDonald)
3) Patrick b. abt 1818 (baptism 10 Mar 1818 at Foilnacanony, Kilcommon, Tipperary, Ireland; Sponsors Bart McDonald and Bridget McDonald)
4) Mary b. abt 1820 (baptism 4 May 1820 at Foilnacanony, Kilcommon, Tipperary, Ireland; Sponsors Hugh Kennedy and Julia Wade)
Morgan and Mary immigrated to Victoria, Australia together in 1850. Record says place of origin Kilcommon, Tipperary and that father, James, was living at Upperchurch. A cousin in Melbourne was named Richard Cantwell. Morgan ran the Edinburgh Castle Hotel in North Melbourne and married Mary Frances Cleary, in Melbourne and together raised a family of 11 children.
Michael also went to Australia (year unknown) and died in Melbourne in Sept 1858.

Hi An Australian Historian of Irish descent has written four books on the Kennedys in this area. His name is Brian Patrick Kennedy. He is coming to Rearcross in north Tipp in July. He does this every year for a gathering of Kennedys. Also a Priest from the area Fr Rody Kennedy wrote a book entitled From Bun Ciamalta Vale to New South Wales. He grew up in the area and ministered as a priest in N S W. He died about ten years ago. I will go through the books and see does it mention your Kennedys.
Best of luck with your research.
God bless and kindest regards.

Thanks Christina. I am also trying to find out if there is a connection with Morgan Kennedy's family with my great great great grandmother Winifred Kennedy, who married Michael Kelly and had at least these three sons - John (b abt 1828), Patrick (b abt 1830) and Hugh (b abt 1836). I think they were from Borrisoleigh - Templederry. Michael can be found in Griffiths at Gorteenavalla in 1853.
Patrick Kelly and his wife Eliza (nee Stapleton) stayed at Morgan Kennedy's hotel in Melbourne in c 1855 and the two families kept in touch through the generations.

Hi Karina,
I have James Kennedy of Knockmehill, Upperchurch, born about 1795 whose first wife was Eliza Maher from Kilskully near Newport, Nenagh. The marriage was in 1823.
They had Patrick Kennedy 1825, Morgan Kennedy 1826, Morgan went to Australia and married Sarah Moran first and then Mary Frances Cleary.
James Kennedy married Mary Bourke from Knochmehill after his first wife's death. They had Winifred 1832, James 1835 and William 1841.
James Kennedy was my GGGrandfather.
I know the dates are different, but this depended on the source. I think we are talking about the same family.
If this fits with your information I would love to hear from you.

Hi MonasMoe,
I just ran our numbers in GEDMatch and we have 2 shared segments. I'm new to the DNA side, so not sure how to proceed.
Largest segment = 7.1 cM
Total Half-Match segments (HIR) 12.1cM (0.338 Pct)
Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 7.12 shared segments found for this comparison.
417217 SNPs used for this comparison.
52.405 Pct SNPs are full identical
I know I have Ryan's in my tree and I have ties to Upperchurch. Other names from that are are Stapleton and Dwyer. I'm intereested in finding family that stayed in Ireland.
My number is AZ7075550 (*Sandy J) [Ancestry].

Hi Sandy and MonasMoe,
I have also done the AncestryDNA, my kit number is XT8212699 (Karina Jonasson) and my maternal uncle KS3292364
I think this shows a closer relationship to MonasMoe, especially for my uncle (5 generations).
I have my tree on Ancestry, username schaubsp, tree Jonasson-Goding.
Cheers

Karina,
Thank you! We are a "significant match" too! Exciting. Are you aware of the excellent material on the internet published by a man named McGrath/McGraw regarding the families of Upperchurch? Many of the families that were associated stayed connected over generations, Ryan's, Kennedy's, Delaney's, Dwyre's, etc. I also have Dwyer/Dwire and Kelly/Kelley. Do you have any Delaney's? My email: maurenekennedy@sbcglobal.net.

Wow, Maurene, that McGraths site is so rich with Central NY info (copying link below for those who missed it in the old thread)!
You and I don't have a DNA match, but I believe, from another of my Matches, that my second great grandmother Bridget Burke (born abt. 1843) was from Upperchurch Parish. My DNA match has a 2nd great grandmother Mary Bourke (b. abt. 1817) of Cappanaleigh, Upperchurch Civil Parish; she married Patrick Stapleton and died in Gortkelly, Upperchurch. I have a baptismal record for a Bridget Burke in 1843, father Richard and mother Mary Murphy. I think they were in Ballyboy. I'm hoping this is my Bridget.
In case there are any Burke descendants reading, I'm trying to pin down and untangle her history. She married Patrick Quinn (born abt. 1844) and had 2 children in Baltimore MD-John (1865) and Mary Ann (1868). I have not found a marriage record, so don't know if it might have been in Ireland or Baltimore. I see there were Quinns in Upperchurch too and wonder of they knew each other there. So many mysteries.....
