My great-great grandfather, Thomas Carey, was born 12/22/1830 in Tipperary. I don't know if that is the parish or county of Tipperary. He immigrated to America in 1847 through the port of New Orleans, Louisiana. From there he went to Ontonagan, Michigan where he married Johanna Flanagan on 9/14/1855. They then moved to Wisconsin in 1863. I don't have his parent's names but have the impression they did not immigrate as I've found no record of them here. I hope that I don't have to search for him parish by parish as that might take me quite awhile! I'm planning a trip to Ireland this coming June and will be in Tipperary and Waterford (which is where his wife, Johanna, was from). Can you help me narrow the parish down?

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I looked at Roots Ireland and searched from 1828-1832 for a Thomas Carey baptismal record and five records came up. One of the five was in 1830 but the date of birth was not 12/22. There are Tipperary RC churches that do not have records available back to 1830 and there are other churches with records back to 1830 or earlier but are not on Roots.
You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing to see if you match someone who has more info on your Carey family.
