I am looking for my GGG grandfather's homeland in County Tipperary Ireland.  US census records suggest he was born in about 1810 in Ireland. His wife, Margaret's obit suggests the couple was married in Ireland prior to emigrating to the U.S. Michael Shanahan's naturalization papwework notes he was from Tipperary.  The couple had at least 5 children said to be born in the US:

Dennis born about 1849

Thomas born about 1853

Cornelius (my GGgf) born about 1856

Mary Johanna born about 1857

Per Dennis' obit, also a sister who married a PJ Daly.

By 1859, the family was residing in Oswego, NY

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Michele,

I went to www.rootsireland.ie and found two baptismal records for a Michael Shanahan in Co tipperary.  One in 1805 in Carrick on Suir

One in 1813 in St. Mary's parish in Clonmel

I don't know which of these is yours so you may need to view both to see if any jjof the family names turn up.  It's difficulot to verify without parents' names.

This site is free to join but you would need to pay about €5 to view and print each record.

Hope this helps you on your way,

    Kind regards,

    Anne Dennehy
