I am searching for Thomas Reilly, born about 1843, who I think emigrated from Tipperary. By the 1870's he was living in Orange, New Jersey, so I assume that he landed in NY. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hello Jim,

There aqre 3,038 Thomas Reillys listed on www.rootsireland.ie.  560 of those in your date range. 12 from Co. Tipperary.  As you can see it is an impossible task to trace someone just by name.  We would need a bit more information such as parents names, spouse etc.

I would suggest that you apply for your great grandfather's death and marriage cert.  These documents hopefully will yield parents names and possibly a definite county of birth.  All these documents should be easily gotten as the US kept very good records.

Do you know if he married in Ireland or US?  If it is the US , then that record will tell a lot.  Once you start building a framework of his life, you will be able to search www.castlegarden.org to see when he travelled over.  Have you sourced his naturalisation papers yet?

So sorry that we can't help you yet,

Please get back to us as soon as you have any of this information,

    Kind regards,

    Anne Dennehy
