I have traced my Family to Tipperary through Birth/Death/Marriage Certificates. I do not have any information about the Parish they came from but I am hoping for a miracle, perhaps through DNA tests?

James Carroll (g g grandfather) was born circa 1815 in Tipperary to James Carroll and Mary ?. James had one known sibling, Edward born circa 1816.

James and Edward emigrated to Australia 1850/53 perhaps seperately. The Carroll family is Roman Catholic.

I found a grave close to James in Burrowa Cemetery N.S.W of John Carroll 1819-1883 from King's County (may be a brother?). John was married to Honora Whelan, also from Ireland I think.

Regards

Sue

  • Hi Sue,

There is a record of the baptism of James Carroll with parents James Carroll and Mary ?  in Tipperary in 1815 in www.rootsireland.ie/  There is no record of Edward though.

The site charges to view records but the record would give you the parish and hopefully Mary's surmane.

There is also a record of a marriage of James Carroll and Mary in Tipperary but it is in 1822.

There was no record of the marriage of John and Honora.

There was a family of Carrolls came out on the Bermondsey arriving in Sydney in 1856:

Edward 47 Ann 45 Anne 22 Michael 20 Catherine 14 James 12 (assisted passenger lists NSW)

The Tithe Applotments whcih are freely available online (1823-37) have 384 Carrolls in Tipperary including 35 James.

I couldn't find a relevant tree on ancestry either I'm afraid.
