I am looking for Catherine Ryan, dau of John Ryan and Mary Egan.  I have been told they came from Thurles, Tipperary.  Catherine was born between 1837 and 1847.  I find many John Ryans in Tipperary but have no way to distinguish mine from the others.

The family moved to the US before 1857.  In Syracuse, NY, Catherine married Roger Carroll, son of Edward Carroll and Julia Condon.  I have never heard their county of origin.

Thank you for any ideas you may have.

  • WyAnnie,  I am also researching the Ryans of Tipperary, Thurles region.  My gg grandmother, Mary Ryan, born in 1820, married a Thomas Dwyer in Thurles in about 1848 and moved to Syracuse, NY in 1849 or 1850.  I am also from Syracuse and still live nearby.  There are many Catherine's in future generations so I'm wondering if your Catherine might be tied to my Mary Ryan.  Have you found any more information on Catherine?  I also am following Rody Ryan of of Turraheen or Thurles, born in 1869 and left in about 1889 to live with my Syracuse family.  He returned to live in Thurles in 1911 and died there in 1921.  I have much information on him if this would help you at all.  You can contact me here or by e-mail at pmaurer1@rochester.rr.com.
