COUNTY ( As Surname ) OR MAHER
I believe James County or Maher came from Thurles area his parents were Michael County and Anastasia/Antice Manton found death of Anastasia County (80) Stradovoher 17/10/1868 and also Thomas County ( 30) 29/9/1868 living with Mary Carthy household. they were RC and farmers. James came to Australia when, how ? no records found as yet. James married Catherine McCarthy 24/1/1860 in South Australia but on marriage certificate 1221 it reads James Maher m Catherine Carty ? listed parents Michael Maher and Caherine's as James Carty m Mary Ryan not sure if this is right surnames on certificates on death, marriage, births of siblings revert back to County, McCarthy ??
Nana told my mother the County names is "County O Marr/Maher" they came from Tipperary, lived in Adelaide then Brighton and settled in Geelong ( have all records for Geelong on, ) We have hit a brick wall as their are many Maher's Ryans, McCarthy all RC from Tipperary just cannot find how either James or Catherine came to Australia or if James father was County or Maher . James sister Margaret County b 1834 Tipperary m Patrick Buckley 3/2/1857 St.Mary's Geelong Mary County b1839 Tipperary arrived Parsee 1858 domestic servant but died 1865 in Geelong.date for Thomas County died in 1868 puts him as third child b 1838 as he died at age 30.but this makes Anastasia County 50 when she had him.?
Any information on this family would be very much appreciated to help solve our thirty + years of researching dead ends.......... !!!

Thank you Clare, I have also being trying different Christian names as said they would name first child after grandparents second christian names would appear as first names.
the only lead would be Margaret County m Patrick Buckley before she left for Australia the writing on death certificate is very clear in beautiful handwriting I might add, Anastasia Manton & Michael County Tipperary. Were there Mantons in Tipperary or is it common elsewhere. Thanks Sandra

Hi Shilo
A study of naming conventions sometimes does help and are a good basis for a search. In terms of information gathering they can yield some interesting options for you to confirm or deny father down the road.

How do I do a study of naming conventions ? Clare, from Australia
-
You are doing it already I'd say - you mention it above in relation to naming the first child after grandparents etc. It can be a good indication but one to be used with some caution too.
Good luck and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
