We know that our John Tierney is from Templemore Tipperary and moved to Quebec in 1828. He married Anne Brassil. We don't know if he married in Ireland and we do not have any information about him in Ireland.  My guess is that he would have been born in the late 1700's or early 1800's.  Any information that is available would be greatly appreciated. I have been unsuccessful so far to find him or his family in Ireland for the last 9 years.  Thanks so.much.

  • Hi Marianne

    There are 7 birth/baptism records for John Tireney Tipperary 1800 + - 20 years on www.rootsireland.ie/

Two are from Templemore RC parish - both 1816

It costs to view the full records but they MAY have the parents' names

  • Hi Jack.  My ancestor is Ellen Tierney b. 1806 in Portlaw, Co. Waterford.  She m. John Britt in 1834 and left for Upper Canada in 1837 with (I believe) is Ellen brother Thomas and maybe John and Michael.  If you go to bytownorbust and type Tierney in the search box you will find a whole lot of Tierneys from Tipperary who settled in Bytown (Ottawa) and Osgoode).  They were all from Tipp.  There's a whole history on the Tierneys.
