My Great Great Grandparents, Patrick Looby (Luby) b: 1829 and Mary Merrigan raised their family in Cashel. I've obtained very good information on the family from St. John the Baptist Parish Center.  The Loobys (Luby) ran a bakery in Cashel for at least 3 generations or more. What is the best way to obtain birth certificates for my Great Grand Father, Patrick J. Looby, Grt Grandmother Bridget Bowles and Grand Father, John Agustus Looby (b:1883), all who came to the US? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Patrick Looby

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Civil registration for births did not start until 1864 so for Patrick Looby and Bridget Bowles only baptismal records are available. I located the civil birth record for John in 1882 and a transcription of the record from Roots Ireland is below. I also located the 1876 civil marriage record for Patrick and Bridget and a transcription is below. The names of the fathers of the bride and groom are listed. Patrick and Bridget had at least two other children: Patrick in 1877 and Michael in 1886.

If you want copies of the actual birth record for John or the marriage record, they can be obtained from the General Register Office for around 4 euros each. I can provide instructions if you want to get copies.

I can try to look for the baptismal records for Patrick and Bridget if you want.

Thank you kindly for your very quick work!  I greatly appreciate the information you have provided.  It is very helpful. I would like to obtain a copy of my Grandfathers Birth Certificate. Please do forward instruction on how to do this. As well, if you are able to find baptismal records for Patrick and Bridget I would love to have the information.

Thank you again for your assistance.

    Best regards,

Go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx  and print out the birth form. Fill out the form to the best of your abiliuty and include the index information. Make sure you ask for a copy only unless you need a cert to file for dual Irish citizenship. A copy cost around 4 euros and a cert around 20 euros. You have to mail the request to Ireland (address provided whne you print the form) but you can ask GRO to e-mail the copy back. I provide my credit card number and never have any issues.

I was not able to find your great-grandfather's baptismal record but may have found the 1829 record for your great-great-grandfather (below). Also found a possible record for Bridget Bowles.

  • I'm showing a few DNA matches to Luby's so perhaps this is the place to post this message, I'm not sure.

I'm searching for my 3rd great grandparents William Thomas Luddy born 1820 Mitchelstown Tipperary, family members mention Cashel

My 3rd great grandmother Joanna Bergen born 1832 Tipperary - one document I show for her is that her is that her family left for Australia and left her behind at the age of 7. She eventually went on to the US and married William in New Orleans.

any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, Patrick would you happen to have ahd any DNA testing done?
