My great grandfather, James D. Casey, was born on 21 February 1831, in the townland of Greenmount, Molough, County Tipperary, he emigrated to the United states about 1857, settling in Columbia, SC (USA).The original information about his origin was obtained from his grave marker in Raleigh, North Carolina (USA) Further information was obtained through research done years ago by the Waterford Heritage Society. They found that James was the son of Richard and Mary Casey (Butler). We did not pay the Waterford Heritage Society to find out if there was any further information available concerning Richard or Mary. James had nine brothers and sisters according to the WHS research: John 1815, Michael 1812, Ellen 1821, Margaret 1822, Mary 1825, Richard 1827, Johanna 1829, Mary 1833, and William1833.
James was married (we think in the Molough area, as they appeared to have emegrated as husband and wife) to Ellen Manley, who was born in January 1836, near Crosmolina, County Mayo, Ireland. Much research on her family has proven negative and we feel the family was disrupted by the famine. It is possible that she was living in the Molough area prior to emigrating. The information about her origin was obtained from her grave marker in Raliegh, North Carolina (USA)

Hello Tom & Jan, I am looking at unanswered queries, there is no sign of the marriage in Ireland, that does not mean they were not married here but they likely married where the bride livhttps://registers.nli.ie/ed and that parish records are not available or were not kept.
Mayo as in the county is a long way from Tipperary but there are some Mayo townlands in different counties but not in Tipperary, nearest is in Laois but they would not have met at the shops as it is not that close for the times.
I searched for Manley births but no joy and only found one in Mayo in Ballinrobe, not an Ellen and Church of Ireland rather than RC. Manley name in various counties but only the one in Mayo from 1830 to 1850 that came up. Again some parishes do not have records for that period.
Looked at all James Casey married an Ellen in case the name was mistranscribed and there are many but nothing jumped out.
If you have any furhter information you could re post the query as we have a volunteer in TIpperary now, what is the church parish for Molough as it is the correct civil parish but does not show up on the church parishes which are now here, search by event and date only and can be tricky.
Good Luck
Pat
