Hi.

My dad was born and baptised at home in glenbreedy, Tipperary.  I tried to obtain a birth certificate but told there is no trace.  My dad being a catholic was baptised in grans house the day after being born. His name is Patrick Joseph Connors born 20.09.1934.  Gran maiden name was named Barry and as far as is known, was not married at the time

how would I go about obtaining a baptism & birth certificate??

many thanks   Michael Connors

I would contact Templemore parish https://cashel-emly.ie/parish/templemore-clonmore-killea/  and request a baptismal certificate. You will need to make a donation to the parish.

  • Michael,

There are a number of "Patrick Connor/Conners baptised in County Tipperary in 1934 - Particularly in Cashel, Clogheen and Nenagh Registration Districts.

Did your father have brothers or sisters and if so, where were they baptised.

Have you searched the Civil Registration records. All registered births from January 1st 1864 are computerised, so if you call to any Civil Registration office, or email with the names of Patrick's

parents a free check will be carried out for you.

  • Thanks for info.  Yes i did try the civil records who don't have any records. His brother is still alive and his birth is on record.  For some reason we cant find my dad's records.   I have e mailed office@cashel-emly.ie in Templemore as my grandparents were married there and both dad and his brother were baptised the Church of the Sacred Heart.  We have a copy of his brother Michael's baptism certificate born a  a year later in 1935. not sure where to go after baptism.

Many thanks for you trying to help.

  • Hi.  Hoping to locate Templemore volunteer Mary with a possibility of help in tracing my farther's baptism records / certificate.

Hs brother Michael is alive at 86, his baptism certificate shows he was born 28th October 1935 & baptised 2nd November 1935 by reverend James O' Ryan.  All the above in Church of the Sacred Heart.

Is there a possibility you can check and provide me info and explain how to obtain a copy of my father's birth certificate detailed below.

    Name               Patrick Joseph Connors

    Date of Birth   20/09/1934

    Farther            Thomas Connors

    Mother            Josephine Connors (Knee Barry)

I will pay any costs etc if you can help in any way.

    many thanks for your help

  • Michael,

You should arrange to check the primary school records.

Prior to confirmation, it was the practice to produce details of baptism.

  • Hi Roger.

I have since found my Grans actual name was Johanna Connors(knee Barry) and possibly didn't marry until after my dad was born. This may make a big difference.

    many thanks

I did hear back from Mary in Templemore. She is unavailable at the present time. Mary indicated that you may want to check with the RC parish in Borrisoleigh. That church is also Sacred Heart. There is a Glenbreeda townland in that area. Mary mentioned that there is a local historian named John Connors who might be able to assist. I don't know if your are on Facebook but here is the link https://www.facebook.com/john.connors.33483  to his page and you may want to send him a private message via Facebook.
