My Ryan ancestores lived in the townland of Cormackstown in the Holycross/Ballycahill RC parish. However they were born and/or married prior to 1835. Would their birth and marriage records likely to be found in an adjacent parish (i.e. Thurles); or were the Holycross records never kept prior to 1835?
I'll certainly begin to search the Thurles records; however, these records are quite extensive, and there is little point in searching them if it is known that the RC parishes records of Holycross/Ballycahill were maintained prior to 1835 but later lost or discarded. Any available information (or best guess) would be appreciated.

Irishstew,
According to this site, there are no earlier records for that parish:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/
That’s not unusual in rural Ireland. Either records before that time were not kept, or they have been lost. Probably the former. Few rural parishes in Ireland have any records before about 1820.
Unless your have some information to suggest your families had a mobile trade or lived close to the boundary of another parish you can probably assume that they were brought up in Ballycahill. In which case, sadly, there’s probably no point in searching other parishes.

The 1834 Tithe Applotment listings had a number of Ryans in Cormackstown.
