Hi! I am in Australia.

I have an Ann and Eleanor Carrol convicted in Port Laois, Kildare who arrived in Australia in 1824.
Their father was William.

They have a sister Catherine, who was baptized in Cloghprior 1813 and married James Lynch in 1836 in Puckane.
They both came to Australia.in 1837.

Unfortunately the Parish Register for Monsea, which includes the above variants, only covers the marriage of Catherine and James, but not early enough for my direct ancestors..

If anyone could help with information, I would be most grateful.
(By the by, I will be visiting Ireland in June 2016).

  • My apologies for the very late response. Do you have an estimate for Eleanor or Ann's year of birth - there is a baptism for an Eleanor but it appears to be a little to late if Catherine was baptised in 1813 and the girls convicted in 1824.

    Thanks

  • Hi Clare

Ann, c1806 supposedly Cloughprior, Co. Tipperary.

Eleanor, c1804 - but I have Co. Kildare - no parish.

Then they say their father was William - no more info.

thank you for your help, Robyn

  • Hi Robyn

Given the early period of the search you may find the Early Birth and Marriage Index useful:

    http://www.irishancestors.ie/?page_id=1926

It might be a long shot but I wonder if there is any record of the details of the crime and the outcome in a local newspaper:

    Best wishes
