Hi Tom!  Nice to hear from you again.

I was hoping to get a family tree breakdown that shows how Edward Keating Hyland is related to John Hyland, my great grandfather.  I suspect he would be an uncle to John Hyland.  I have also been looking for a death or funeral news article to give me more information about how he died. 

Thank you for the information with regard to the marriage to John to Johanna Cotter and the children's birth records.  I have all that copied and in my family tree on Ancestry.com.

Perhaps you can help me by finding the marriage of Mary Hyland to Mr. Lonergan/Londregan.  The Cork Examiner said she passed in October 1889  but I cannot find her death record.  The information from that could give me clues as to where to look next.

Thank you for the information.  Am I right in thinking that the Blind Piper was born as Edward Keating and then was adopted and took the last name Hyland when his mother remarried?

Hi Tom,

I honestly do not know if he was born Keating who took on a stepfather's name, or if he were born Hyland with Keating as a middle name from his mother. 

I tried to find the Cork Examiner from late October to November 1889 to read the entire article about his death, hoping I would get more information.  I have not been able to find it. 

I did find a mention of a 'blind piper' who died late February or early March 1845 using the British Newspaper Archives.   The article is in the Sothern Reporter and Cork Commercial Courier, dated Saturday, 8 March 1845.  The Derry Journal dated 10 May 1912 mentioned Edmund Keating Hyland but did not contain any new details.

I thought Edmund died in Dublin.  I did find mention of a death of a blind man in Dublin but no mention was made that he was a famous blind piper.  I cannot recall the paper or the exact setting, but recall a Duke was involved walking a blind man back to his house and the blind man was a bit tipsy.  I think the blind man was put in the wrong house (just one door down). If I recall, the year was off for that story.  I'll have to look again when I have more time.
