Hello
My great great grandfather is Silvester (Silvius)Flood born in Thurles in around 1812. His wife Ellen was born there in 1814. They emigrated to the UK in about 1832 and lived in Bristol where they had 7 children including Silvester jnr, my great grandfather who had Margaret Agnes, my grandmother. She married TOm Davey and amongst their 7 children was my father Henry born in 1922 and sadly dying just a few weeks ago age 94. I'm a member of Ancestry so I've managed to locate lots of information but always draw ablank when it comes to the Irish connection. I'd like to know more about Silvester senior's time in Ireland, his parents who I believe were Michael and Mary and anything else that might be interesting. Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks and kind regards
Caz

Caz,
There’s a record of a baptism of Silvester Flood to Michael & Mary Flood in Boherlahan parish on 8.5.1810. It’s one of the very first entries in the register so that’s fairly lucky:

Thanks Elwyn. Is there anyway I can find out if there are any living relatives or even some family graves which we could come to visit?

Caz,
There are no Flood entries in the current phone book for Thurles, but there are 7 in Co. Tipperary. (Of course a lot of people are not listed these days so there may be others).
There were 40 people named Flood in Co. Tip in the 1911 census, but none in Thurles: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie
Can’t help with burial records. (In general the RC church doesn’t keep any). You could search local graveyards for gravestones but the vast majority of the population in the 1800s couldn’t afford one. Not sure if any gravestone inscriptions in that area are on-line. You could try some of the find a grave sites.

Caz,
I came across a baptismal record in the Boherlahan register for Silvester Flood. He was baptised on 8th May 1810. His parents were Michael Flood and Mary Flood. In the early entries the mother's maiden name was not given. The godparents were John Storman and Margaret Mulcahy. The Flood name was associated with the townland of Tubberadora back through the years. The last Flood family in that area moved to Kilsheelan in South Tipperary in the late 1950s or early 1960s, between Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir where descendants still live.
The godparent Storman was associated with the neighbouring townland of Nodstown. Descendants of the Stormans still live in the locality.
A Michael Flood was baptised on 9th Sept. 1812. The parents were Michael Flood and Mary. The latter may be the same parents. A mary Dwyer was given as godmother, a common name in that locality.
The Flood family made a living from farming in Tubberadora.
Hope this information is of some help.
