In my research of my Mothers Paternal Grandparents I have discovered the birthplaces of my Great Great Grandparents who emigrated to Australia and bought my Great Grandfather (Also Cornelius Ryan) B: C 1845 also in Boherlahan Dualla and other children with them to Australia on the ship called "The Simonds"

I am told that some of the children were left behind with family members as they could not afford the fare for all and took the older children who could help with work.  What I am wondering is are there still descendants of the original Con and Mary in Ireland?

Is anyone over there researching the same family tree? Older children also on the ship were Michael Ryan C 1841 in Thrullis? County Clare and Bridget Ryan B: 2 Feb 1844 in Dualla.

I am told that it was the Famine that prompted them to come to Australia.

Would love to hear from anyone who has these same names on their own family tree.

Kind regards

  • Dear Roger

Thank you so much for your assistance with my search and for the link to the parish registers.  It is both sad and exciting to think that some of my Great Grandparents children may have been left behind, even if it was for their own safety!  I wonder if they grew up seeing it that way?

I look forward to hearing from anyome who may belong to the same tree.  Mary Boyle Smith was the mother to all my Grandfathers children. He did remarry, after she died in childbirth at age 31, however he did not have any children with his second wife.

    Happy researching.

    Cheers
