DWYER’S FROM BALLINREE, BALLYSHEEHAN, TIPPERARY who were on the SMITH-BARRY ESTATE prior to eviction in the 1850’s.

HELP!  Where did these Dwyer’s go and if there are any of their descendants in the area today who can provide more information?

1766 Religious Census, Ballysheehan:  Michael, Thomas and William Dwyer

The Tithes showed the following were on the Smith-Barry Estate, Ballinree, Ballysheehan:

  • 1790               William Dwyer and Thomas Dwyer
  • Before 1827    Michael Dwyer
  • 1827 – 1830    John Dwyer; Daniel Dwyer & son Patrick Dwyer; Margaret Dwyer
  • 1830  House Books:  Patrick, Daniel, John and Margaret Dwyer
  • 1831 - Tithe Defaulters, Ballinree:  Daniel & John Dwyer
  • 1845  Field Books:  Patrick, Margaret, Daniel and John Dwyer
  • 1847-1864 Griffiths Valuation, Ballysheehan:  John, William and Patrick Dwyer
  • 1850's - Cancel Books, Smith-Barry Estate, Ballinree:  Patrick, Margaret, Michael, Daniel and John Dwyer all Evicted

It is possible and this theory is only mine, but I believe that our Daniel Dwyer, b. 1805 could possibly be descended from the above.

  • 1805 Daniel Dwyer born Tipperary,Ire. [records begin 1810]
  • 1837 married Mary Hackett (1815 Boherlahan-Dualla) - Witness Patrick Dwyer [his brother?] & Patrick Hackett [Mary's father]; Officiant Rev. William Kirwan
  • 1838 their firstborn child named Michael Dwyer [Sponsors:  Michael Cummins & Cath Lube/Looby]
  • 1839 Daniel, Mary & Michael Dwyer immigrated to Canada.
  • William, Thomas, Michael and Daniel have all been used among their descendants in Canada, but no Patrick's.

DNA has been done in the Canadian family and Family Finder results are in with no connections as of July 2017

  • Marilyn, Have you found further info? I’m looking for a Margret Dwyer, born August 1837, immigrated to Canada at some point & was married there in 1856. I’m at a dead end. Her death certificate shows her Fathers last name of maybe McWyre. Appreciate any info you may have.

  • Shannon, I have not found anything further on our Dwyer's.  As for your Margaret Dwyer (nee McWyre), more information would be helpful....date of death and where, married or widowed at the time of death, who the informant was, etc.  Do you have a source for the marriage in 1856?  Canadian OVR (Ontario Vital Records) death registrations usually have quite a bit of info.  Lastly, our Margaret Dwyer was born in Ontario Canada and never married.

  • Thank you Marilyn. My Margaret with her husband and children moved to Gladstone Michigan where she lived out her years   I have quite a bit of info on her family from there, but not prior. I plan to contact Gladstone to see if they have any records and see if I can get her marriage certificate in Canada. Thanks again and good luck!
