Seeking parish of emigrant John Kennedy (possibly birth 1815) who emigrates to USA, setting in Corcoran, Minnesota, getting a farm - would have emigrated in mid 1800's.

Also looking for ancestors Catherine (Kate) Corcoran who also lived in Corcoran, Minnesota.

Don't know for sure what county/parish.  Any one have an ancestor going to America about this time to Corcoran, Minnesota?

    Hi Debra,

    Thank you for your message.

Have you tried looking into John?s emigration to see if you can find some information in his immigration records? For information on US immigration records check the National Archives at: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

I would also recommend searching through all documentation that you have relating to him and his family. This can include official documents like wills, census records, marriage records and unofficial documents such as letters, family bibles, diary entries and old photographs. Sometimes tombstones can also record a place of origin.

There are a few websites where you could try searching for John and Catherine, however without more information it may be difficult to narrow down results:

www.familysearch.org has a large databsae of genealogical records including some church records fro Ireland

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have church records available free of charge from Counties Carlow, Dublin, Kerry and parst of Cork.

www.rootsireland.ie has a vast collection of Irish church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

Some other websites that may be useful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

I hope that some of these links are helpful. Remember to post any new information that you find. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,
