Hi anyone!

I have been trying to find the family of Thomas Bruton, born c 1838. I have his death in Tipperary Town in 1873.

I was recently contacted from the USA - John Bruton, born 1834 in Ballingarry and William also. Their Mother was Mary Purdue.

Is there any way anyone can think of, to link my Thomas Bruton, born 1838 to the Thomas Bruton born 1838 in Ballingarry?

I know nothing else about my Thomas, except he was a Labourer, the names of his children - Thomas, Margaret, Mary, John, William and his wife Johanna Myers of Tipperary Town - Johanna died young. Margaret - my ancestress, came to Australia; Mary (Molly) went to the States; the first Mary and John died early; William joined the Royal Munster Fusiliers and I have found him as a Chelsea Pensioner - and his son Thomas????

    Regarding the possible connection with the person from the USA, the two of you may want to take an autosomal DNA test and see if you match.

    re the Autosomal - yes, the Brutons in the USA have suggested that; as have the Keatys from Bansha.
    I actually did do both the mitochrondial DNA and the 'y' one (from my father) with Oxford University, many years ago. This is not the same as the autosomal???@@## - I really do not understand the difference etc. and do I have to do this one with Ancestry?

    to O'Rourke (sorry, but a wonderful Irish name) - all the children were baptized in Tipperary Parish, Diocese of Cashel and Emly.
    The Irish Fairy Stories from my family (should be leprechaun, don't you think?) were that "Thomas was English/was a travelling actor who came to the village/was groomsman to a Lord/met Johanna Myres whilst hop-picking in Kent". Seriously, surely they could have persisted with just one story?

    There are three types of DNA tests. The Y test go all the way back on the paternal line father, paternal grandfather, his father, etc. The mtDNA test is just the opposite going straight back on the pure maternal line. In between is the autosomal test which looks at all of your DNA both on your paternal side and your maternal side. You can test with either Family Tree DNA or Ancestry. There are also some smaller companies. I have tested with both major companies and prefer Family Tree.

    To O'Rourke - Johanna Myers married Thomas Bruton in Tipperary Parish on January 9. 1861.
    Witnesses, Michael Hickey and Mary Crowley.
    Looks like Thomas lived in the Parish as another wasn't specified.....

    To Roger - could you please tell me how the 'matching' of DNA works. Do they match for you or must you suspect who your rellies are and make contact? Which of Family Tree/Ancestry does what??
