My great great grandfather - Thomas Shanahan (Born: December 1843 - Ireland / Nenagh or Templederry - Died: 04 December 1915, Toowoomba, QLD. AUST) emigrated to Australia after swapping his ticket for Americia with a fellow going to Australia.
His parents: Michael Shanahan and Mary Grace were married 23JAN1841 in the Catholic parish of Nenagh. They emigrated to America with their four girls).
Therre is a gap in the Baptismal Register of Nenagh for the period 1843 - 44!
However, five children of these parents born in Nenagh were: (1) Thomas (Born - DEC1843). (2) Mary (Born - 13SEP1850). (3) Anne (Born - 12DEC1853). (4) Mary (Born - 24SEP1855 / Died - 1932 USA). (5) Anne (Born - 26FREB1858).
Michael Shanahan was a carpenter and his son - Thomas, followed in the same trade.
Thomas married the love of his life - Ellen Mary Delany (who emigrated to Australia in 1865.
Between 1871 - 1883, Thomas and Ellen had 13 children, of whom the following 11 survived: Joe, Jim, Bill, Thomas, John, Katie, Maggie, Mick, Winnie, Ellen and Edward.
My Grandfather - Mick / Michael (Born - 30MAR1870 in Roma, QLD, AUST) married Charlotte Dunstan who had one child - Michael Charles (my Father).
My Father married Louisa Hughes in 1964, in Townsville QLD AUST, the year I was born - 06AUG45.
Are their any relatives of the original emigrants - Michael and Mary Shanahan who left Ireland in 1867? I believe there are relatives of the Shanahan clan living in the Templederry area.
All the best and I do hope someone can reply - Terrence Russell Charles SHANAHAN

I enclose a link to the Eircom phonebook http://m.eirphonebook.ie/ - there is a Shanahan family living in Templederry. You will note that there is an address also - you might prefer to write to them.
