Hello my name is Kathryn. I am interested in finding information on my Gilligan heritage. Michael Gilligan born 1823, married to Cordelia a. Davis. Michael' s father was Edward Gilligan born1799 was married to Margaret Scally born 1795. Any information regarding this family would be appreciated. They are from the county of Sligo. I do not know the Parrish.

Thank you

  • Hi Kathryn

Here is a marriage record from www.rootsireland.ie/ ( a subscription site):

Date of Marriage: 24-Aug-1856 Parish / District: GEEVAGH County: Co. Sligo Husband Wife Name: Michael Gilligan Catherine Davy Address: Denomination: Roman Catholic Roman Catholic

Neither father's name is given or either family's address. The bride was probably from Geevagh.

The Tithe Applotments (free at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/) have 4 Gilligans in Sligo in 1824 (no Edwards though). This will give you their specific addresses.

There is a record of the baptism of Edward G in 1799 in Dublin

Edward Gilligan Date of Birth: Date of Baptism: 16-Sep-1799 Address: Ne Parish/District: ST.PAUL'S ARRAN QUAY Gender: Male County Co. Dublin Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: Cornelius Gilligan Mother: Catherine

    There are 3 others 1791, 1793 & 1802 all in Roscommon.

The only ones for Margaret Scally are 1799 Westmeath & 1805 Kildare.

I couldn't find their marriage record.

  • Hello,
Do you have any other information on the family - did they emigrate somewhere, when and who? This may provide more clues to tracing them back to Ireland. Happy to help if I can
