I am looking for the Irish origin of my 3rd great grandfather Arthur McCLINTOCK b. abt 1801 in Ireland (possibly Sligo area) occupation laborer/farmer in Quebec, Canada.  The earliest documentation I have found for him is 11 MAY 1826.  According to a baptism document for his first child Jane, he was living in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada with his wife Mary CASS [KAYES, KEYES, CAYS].  His daughter was baptised privately, ANGLICAN, and it was recorded at the Cathedrale Anglicane, Quebec, CAN.

According to family anecdote, that I have been unable to confirm with any documentation, Arthur McClintock's mother was named Martha WILSON (Scottish) and his father (first name unk) McCLINTOCK was a sailor or sea captain and sailed for Canada from a port at Sligo, Ireland.  It is said that Arthur was born in Sligo, Ireland in the area of the south bank of the Sligo River.  It is unknown if Arthur emigrated to Canada with his parents as a child or if he came later as an adult.  It is unknown if he had any siblings and if they were born in or emigrated to Canada.

I have been unable to find documentation of his first marriage to a Mary CASS [KAYES, KEYES, CAYS] but their first child was born in MAY 1826 in Quebec, CAN.  I am estimating that they were married (either in Ireland or Canada abt 1825).  I estimate a range of possible emigration to Canada as abt 1801 (if born in Ireland) to abt 1826 before MAY (the birth of his first child Jane).

Arthur's second marriage (as a widower) was to my 3rd great grandmother Ellen CLEARY b.abt 1811 on 02SEP1834 in Ste Catherine, Portneuf, Quebec, CAN as a CATHOLIC. It is also unconfirmed family anecdote that his marriage to a Catholic caused a split in the family that lead some of them to locate to other areas of Canada away from Quebec.  I don't necessarily believe this story because his eldest daughter Jane (of his first marriage) was present and recorded at some of the marriages and births of the children of the second marriage and they at the births of her children.

Any help/leads would be greatly appreciated.

Warmest regards,
