Looking for information about my ancestor Martin McHugh born 1857 in Drumcliff Sligo Ireland. Immigrated to New York in 1885. His parents were Peter McHugh and Bridget McLean. he is related somehow to P A McHugh as in my grandmothers Sligo book she wrote Uncle Pat Under his picture. Minnie McHugh may be sister of Martin as I have a letter from Milltown drumcliff Sligo to my grandmother(His daughter Margaret) stating that she is daughter of Peter. I am researching the family tree and trying to get more information on this family. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Colleen:
i only located one McHugh family in Drumcliff parish in the 1901 census--- a Thomas in Cullagh Beg townland.
I also checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland and they had an 1858 baptism record for a Martin McHugh in Driumcliff RC records. Parents were Peter and Bridget. Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record.
I also searched the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Drumcliff parish. No McHughs but a Peter McKew in Cullagh Beg townland so maybe Thomas was a son of Peter.

Hi. Just came across this site. My name is Peter Mc Hugh from cullaghbeg drumcliff Co. Sligo. My family have been living in drumcliffe for a number óg generations. Some of my father's uncles and and aunties traveled to America around the early 1900s. If you are looking for more information i might be able to help

I have an interest in McHugh as my ancestor Martin Conroy either worked for or was a relative of Francis McHugh of Larkhill in Ballysadare parish. Info from Martin’s 1863 marriage to Mary Wilson at Ballysadare - he is of Larkhill, born out of wedlock, father’s name Peter Conroy, witness Francis McHugh of Larkhill, no mother's name given.). Looking for possible associations between Martin and McHugh, I found a Martin McHugh in Griffiths Valuation 1858 at Lissaneena townland in Balkysadare parish, landlord Thomas Phibbs.

P.S. I’m not sure if Conry / Conroy is Martin’s mother’s surname or his father’s surname. I’m told it’s quite unusual for just a father’s name of an illegitimate born son to be given in the marriage record. I am wondering if his mother was no longer alive and therefore not named.
