  • Hi, I'm a 1st cousin 3x removed of Thomas Craig's wife Rebecca Gilmore.  I've been researching the Humphrey Gilmore family for quite some time now.  Was thrilled to finally find someone who knows some of that family.  Don't think I have any information that would be of help to you, but would be interested in any information you might have on the Gilmores of Sligo and/or Ballysadre

  • Hi.  I am the grandson of Frank Whiteside, born in Holmfield Manitoba Canada.  He was the son of Robert Whiteside, who at the age of 3 travelled with his mom and dad (John age 23 and Rebecca Whiteside age 21) to Quebec City Canada on the SS Nestorian (arriving Nov 4, 1868).  John is the Son of Benjamin and Sarah Whiteside.  Benjamin and Sarah had another son Henry, who married a Maria Hamilton in Dowrea, Ballygawley, Co Sligo.  They were the parents to a Elizabeth Jane Whiteside and she Married a James Craig.

So I am hoping beyond hope that we are somehow related.  My wife and I are heading to Ireland this fall to see what we can see.

    All the best.  Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Just saw your post.  She must be the same person, as my records also have Elizabeth's parents as Henry Whiteside and Maria Hamilton and she grew up in Dowrea.  My grandfather came to the United States in 1911.  Visited Ireland myself in 2010--difficult to find living relations but enjoyed visiting the old churches/graveyards and the towns where my family lived.  Plan to go back again.

    Have a good trip,

    Deb
