Just found Wm Marren, my GG Grandfather in the Tithe Applotment Books, 1823 - 1837. My question is where do I look for more information on his (my) family? He is listed in 1827 in Achrony [sic] Parish, Townland: Carownavorane. Any information or help would be truly appreciated. Thanks, vee

Achonry is the largest civil parish in area in Co. Sligo. Unfortunately, RC church records for Achonry do not start until 1859 at the earliest. The 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a good number of Marran/Marren/Marron families in the parish. There is a William Marran in Carrownaworan townland (which I assume is the same townland as the Carrownavorane in your note). Whether this is your William or a relative, I can't tell. The 1901 census shows one Marren household in Carrownaworan, a Mark Marren age 40 and unmarried. He was there also in 1911. I also located a civil death record in 1880 for a William Marren age 70. (See below).

What other info do you have on your family?
