HI, I AM TRYING TO TRACE MY GREAT GRANDFATHER - MATTHEW BYRNE WHO WAS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN BORN IN ELPHIN, ROSCOMMON IN 1851. I WOULD LOVE TO TRACE HIS BIIRTH CERTIFICATE SO I CAN TRACE FURTHER BACK. IF ANYONE IN ELPHIN RECOGNISES THIS NAME AND HAS FAMILY WHO EMIGRATED TO ENGLAND AT THE TIME OF THE FAMINE.

MATTHEW EMIGRATED TO THE MIDLAND, THEN MOVED UP TO WIDNES NEAR LIVERPOOL) WHERE HE LIVED TILL HE DIED.       PERHAPS SOMEONE IN THE PARISH HAS DECENDENTS OF HIS SIBLINGS OR COUSINS.

  • Hi,  My GG grandmother was Bridget Beirne and she lived in Elphin and was married to Michael Tiernan.  The spelling Beirne based on my research seems to be the most predominant way of spelling that name in Roscommon.  I have her being born in the mid 1850's and married in Ogulla in 1877.  The majority of their children were baptized in Tulsk.  I live in the US and we did turn to the Roscommon Genealogy Society several years ago.  The pieces we did have...all fell neatly into place with their assistance.  Best of luck with your research.  Carolyn
