My ancestor was Jonas PERCY, Esq. of Ballintemple, King's Co.  After searching for 12 years, I am certain that he existed;  he was named in a 1718 will. :-)

His father is said to have been Richard Percy, but no trace of him has been found. His mother was Sarah, daughter of Rev. John Padfield. Sarah was baptized by her father, then the Rector of Huntsham, Devon, on 1 Nov 1643, so Jonas was probably not born before 1660.

Jonas married Mary, 2nd daughter of Francis Parsons, Esq.  Mary was a minor in 1668.

I have multiple pedigrees for the family, but very little solid evidence.

Getting desperate. Any suggestions? Are there any Monumental Inscriptions at Ballintemple?

Btw, I am aware that one author has stated that these Percies were related to James Percy of Dublin, the "Trunkmaker." I've looked at his tree carefully, and can find NO connection.

  • Hello Peggy,

wow, you have managed to go back a long way!

Similar to my other message on the Ballyboy board, I will have to check if I can find/access transcriptions for Ballintemple.

My information is that the Irish Midlands (Co. Laois & Offaly) Ancestry Service (a member of the IFHF) has recorded all the graveyards in Co. Offaly.

    They can be contacted here:

    http://www.irishmidlandsancestry.com/content/contact/contact_details.htm

    info@offalyhistory.com / Telephone + 353 (0)57 9321421.

Please note theirs is a chargeable service - there is a form on the website to complete and a first search costs ?10.

    Online record search here: http://offaly.rootsireland.ie/

    regards

  • Hi Delores,

My expericences with organizations apparently given a monopoly over many Irish records have been such that I would never pay them for a search. I'm happy to pay for copies of records if I can have some faith in the accuracy of the transcriptions.

I'd suspect that any transcription of MIs for the Percies of Ballintemple would have been done by antiquarians, long ago.

  • Have you been able to look at the following at the NLI:

Pedigree of Percy of Ballintemple, Kings Co. and Co. Leitrim, c.1690 -- 1815.

    http://sources.nli.ie/Record/MS_UR_055660

Copy of grant of arms to John Percy of Ballintemple in Kings Co., son of George Percy, with pedigree of Percy, May 18, 1815.

    http://sources.nli.ie/Record/MS_UR_055665

I see the dates are a bit later than you need, but there may be something helpful.
