I am seeking the antecedents of George Little (ca 1795 - 1846)  He was apprenticed to Samuel Salmon and admitted to the King’s Inns in  Michaelmas Term 1822
At this date he was already married with a young family. He must have been apprenticed at a mature age possibly about the time he married. It is possible that he had previously worked as a legal clerk for Salmon who employed agents in various districts across the country.

George Little’s children were born in Cloghaun, Offaly and the youngest, Elizan was baptised in the parish of Gallen in 1822 but there is no record of baptism for his older children in the Gallen parish register.

George Little began to practice as an attorney in Birr, Offaly County after his admission as a barrister. He is listed as one of five attorneys practising in Birr in 1823  (Appendix to Cooke’s “The early history of the town of Birr or Parsontown” 1875
Pigot & Co.’s Directory also lists him as an attorney in Cumberland St, Birr in 1824.
His wife’s family, the Blakeleys, owned property in Frankford (Kilcormac).  Mrs Blakely is listed there in 1823 amongst the gentry. She is presumably the woman with whom George Little contested the ownership of the Frankford mills in 1835 and was presumably the sister-in-law of his deceased wife, Mary Blakeley. The Dublin Almanac and General Register of Ireland in 1841 lists “Little, George, sol. 41 Dominick st. Lr. and Cloghan, Kings county.(Queen’s bench, Common Pleas and Equity)”

  • IrishGenealogy.ie has all the registered births but there is no George Little or as sometimes spelled Lyttle.

I would contact the Birr Historical Society - http://www.birrhistsoc.com/ to see if they might be of any help to you.

Cloghan to Birr is about 15 mintues drive.  You could contact the Parish Church - http://strynaghschurch.ie/

St. Rynagh’s Church is the Roman Catholic church of Gallen and Rynagh which is situated in County Offaly in the diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise.

    Good Luck
