O'Neill Family of Cussaboy, Tulleycorbet, Monaghan

Hi Margaret Anne O'Neill was born at Derrylusk, Tullycorbet, Monaghan in October, 1874, father Felix mother Alice, sponsors Hugh & Mary McKenna.

Alice born Corraviller, Tullycorbet, 11th August 1872, father Felix and mother Alice Hughes sponsors Willaim Kelly and Ester Hughes.

Mary born 1869; Francis February 1867; James 1864 but father is recorded as Philip O'Neill, 

They do not appear to have registered the civil births but you can check for free here, 1864 onwards to 1973 for deaths, 1923 for births and 1947 for marriages. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

I have heard that my grandmother Alice O’Neill (1872 dob) emigrated to New York with her two sisters, Margaret (1874 dob)  and Mary (1869 dob) after their mother, Alice Hughes O’Neill, died and the farm was turned over to their eldest brother. I have tried to find any of my O’Neill cousins still living and traveled to Monaghan a few times. But I  only found a few names in the cemetery. (see attached) I am still looking for the graves of Felix O’Neill and Alice Hughes O’Neill ( my great grandparents). 

Hi, Alice died on the 1st April, 1896, the person present was Felix O'Neill, you can see the entry on the site I attached on my post, Irish Genealogy. So migration was after this, there are a lot of Alices on the emigration lists but that should shorten the search, also a few on the Ellis Island site I think, see one Alice entered the US from Yokohama, Japan.

There is an 80 year old (may not be correct as gussed) son James I think present at death in 1902, he fits address wise but there is a 1912 one also with a Margaret present at death, not clear on address.

I have all the emigration information, the ships’ manifests, etc. for my grandmother and her sisters. They all traveled by ship with who a woman from their village in Ireland who had settled in New York. This woman the. found domestic employment for young women like my grandmother Alice and her sister Margaret.I have attached a photo of my grandmother Alice O’Neill Beary. I believe it was taken in the 1920s in New York City.

I would really like to know where in County Monaghan my great grandfather Felix O’Neill, and my great grandmother Alice Hughes O’Neill, are buried. Are you able to provide me with any help in locating their graves?

Hello, I live over 60 miles away so have little local knowledge as such. You should first consider there may be no headstone or marker for the grave, after that there would be a local Catholic graveyard and may be an older one etc and the Protestant one may also have some Catholics as often churchs were dissolved by Henry VIII and brought back a Protestant in the early 1800s and used to bury both religions.

With those caveats you may find it on Find A Grave or another website doing that, also some local history people may have transcribed graveyards into a local book etc this was a thing started in the 1980s so look for a Monaghan local history group or email the Monaghan Library Local Studies section or Archives.

However you could tryt he private Facebook group Monaghan Genealogy, apply to join if you have a FB . It has 2,700 members and you may strike lucky there or t .r the parish website. Some the the genealogy groups I am on have linked  local graveyards to the page, again luck will play a part. There are often just local pages but sometimes they are not overly active.
