I have just discovered that my Great Grand Parents, Francis Barker and Teresa McMahon were married in Tehallen on 30th January 1860. (Rootsireland.ie). Teresa was resident in Tehallen and Francis was resident in Liverpool though he was born in Co. Monaghan (UK 1891 Census). After their marriage they moved to Liverpool and I have records of their family. I do not have any information about them before they were married. Can anyone help me with this?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your message.

Have you tried looking for the families in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

It may also be an idea to check out Monaghan Genealogy?s Facebook page to see if they can offer you some further advice or assistance:

  • Hi,

I also have a McMahon connection in my family from Tyholland. I have Mary Ann Brimmer who married James McMahon in 1871 in Monaghan. I have found the spelling McMahon, McMahan and a few other variations of this in the records for Monaghan. James and Mary Ann had 5 children I know of but I suspect there were more. They were

    Thomas John McMahan/McMahon

    Edward McMahan
    1868 –

    Anna Maria McMahan
    1874 –

    Robert McMahan
    1878 –

    Joseph McMahan
    1880 –

Perhaps this is of some help in your research.

    Regards Mish
