  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I could not locate a marriage record for John and Jane. The only baptism for children born to a John Crawford and Jane in Monaghan was for John, baptised 02-Jul-1826 though this is a Church of Ireland baptism. Many of the Presbyterian parish records for Co. Monaghan to not begin until the 1830s or 1840s so there will be no parish records for anyone baptised or married there before that time.

You could check out rootsirelan.ie of familysearch to see if any of the remaining children married in Monaghan/Ireland.

You could also check out the The Presbyterian Historical Society in Belfast as they retain records of all Presbyterian Ministers in Ireland and could help further: http://www.presbyterianhistoryireland.com/#sthash.0qzBMe4Q.dpuf

  • Hi Mary

As John was born prior to 1864 there will be no birth record for him but his baptism record gives his date of birth as 04-Jun-1826. He was baptised in Ballybay parish. I can't tell who John married as we don't know where the bride's parish was or what her first name was or teh year of marriage.

You could try the  following site to see if they have a listing for the Presbyterian Ministers listed in the family above:

  • Hi Mary,

Not sure if there is any connection.  I have a John Crawford born I believe Clones Monaghan, in 1827.  He married in 1864 and most of his children were born in and around Cootehill.  One of his children was Thomas Henry, one of his other children William Crawford married Isabella Dawson.  Because of the parish connection and the names I wondered if there was nay stronger connection

    Regards

  • Hi Mary,

I am helping a friend researching the Crawfords and Beattys in Monaghan.  Thank you for the info re John's parents I will add that to my chart.  The information I have is that John had seven children, John James (23.3.1867) Mary (14.9.1867) William (27.6.1868), Joseph (23.6.1870), Thomas Henry, Samuel (21.2.1874), Elizabeth (23.3.1876).  John  and Mary died unmarried, I have information on the others if you are interested.  I followed William whose offspring mostly migrated to North America.
