Searching for information on my 4 gr grandparents James Shearman (Sherman) (c1780-1871) & Annie Gawley (1793-1875) who came to Ontario Canada about 1823 with 2 children. Annie's brother Andrew accompanied them. According to Annie's death document she was born in Clones, Ireland. Another source says Co. Fermanagh. An elderly relative many years ago said they were from Gawley's Gate (a townland?). In Canada they were Methodists. Any information would be appreciated.

  • Dear Carolyn

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the long delay in getting back to you.

Have you already checked the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) for records on your Methodist ancestors?

Gawlwy's Gate is in Co. Antrim, it is a small village not far from Lurgan.

    Best wishes
