McMahon is a pretty common surname in Co. Monaghan. It would help if you could give a bit more specifics, like Christian names and approximate dates for the people. Did they leave Ireland, where did they go, and about when? How do you know it is Clones? That kind of stuff.
Good luck!

Thanks Cindy.
My father was Philip Patrick McMahon born on 1 May 1907 at Gorteen in the district of Clones and the county of Fermanagh. His father was Henry McMahon and his mother Mary Anne McMahon - nee Mulligan. He migrated to New Zealand/Australia around 1924/1925. Phil had 4 sisters, Mary (Minnie) (1901 - 1972), Catherine (Cassie) (1903 - 1924), Ellen (Nell) (1905 - 1986) and Elizabeth (Cissie) (1909 - 1989)
Henry McMahon was born on 23 November 1872 in Gorteen. His father was Phillip McMahon and his mother was Mary McMahon - nee McMahon. Henry was a farmer/wheelwright. He died on 25 September 1909.
Mary Anne McMahon was born Mary Mulligan at Strananice? in the district of Clones - Fermanagh & Monaghan on 8 November 1873. Her father was James Mulligan and her mother was Mary
Anne Mulligan - Nee McGlynn. Mary died in childbirth on 12 August 1909 at Gorteen. Her siblings were Margaret (Maggie McCaffery), Liza (McIlroy), Briget (McElgun), Patrick (Paddy and James (Jim).Therese Channell

My great grandfather, Thomas S. McMahon, was born 8 Feb 1852 in Gorteen in Fermanagh and was born to Patrick McMahon and Mary Grew. Henry McMahon from Gorteen was not a sibling of Thomas McMahon, as Henry’s father was Philip McMahon. But it is very possible that my great grandfather and all the McMahons that lived in the townland Gorteen were closely related.
Thomas McMahon’s sister, Ellen McMahon, was married to Michael Core, on the 28th February 1870 in the Roman Catholic Parish of Clones, County Monaghan. Michael Core was from a place named Feigh in County Fermanagh.
Thomas McMahon’s mother, Mary Grew, resided in the neighbouring townlands of Greaghacholea and Carnmore, County Fermanagh. Mary Grew and Patrick McMahon were married in the Roman Catholic Parish of Clones on the 13th January 1822. Mary Grew’s family and her husband Patrick McMahon’s family were all living in neighbouring townlands. The name of the church and cemetery for the Clones Parish is St. Macartan’s in Aghadrumsee may be where the McMahons, Grews, and Core families may have been buried.

Hi Jerry
Thank you very much for that information. Henry was an only child as his mother was only married a year. Henry, his mother, Mary (a McMahon from Eshnadarragh), wife Mary Ann (nee Mulligan) and two daughters are buried at Aghdrumsee. We have found that his father, Phillip and Phillip's father, David are buried at Rosslea. We had a lot of trouble finding Phillip because he was older than we thought.
After looking at the Griffith valuations, we think that Patrick and David were brothers and Bridget was either their mother or sister. We believe Michael was their father. Michael left one of his leases to Phillip. Do you think that Patrick is your ancestor?
Your information about the Corr connection was interesting as we have have a DNA connection to Sean Corr. We think this connection is through the Eshnadarragh McMahons though.
Cheers Therese.

Hi Jerry
Have you had your DNA tested? I had mine done through MyHeritage and my brother through both My Heritage and Ancestry. Maybe that will give us a better indication of whether or not we really are related.
Cheers Therese
