My 3 x great-grandparents were Richard Rennick and Christina Madill, they were married Jan 4, 1831 in Clones (this is from a transcript I got from Ancestry.ca).There oldest son George was baptiest Oct 8, 1831 in the Church of Ireland. Their son John was my 2 x gr-grandfather was born I think in April 1834 (haven't confirmed this, yet).  I think some time in the 1840's they left Ireland for Scotland.  I have a copy of John's marriage record in Scotland in 1857. This is basically all I know of the family. I have some information of a Mary Rennick in the Griffith's Valuation book, in Clones, but I don't know where she fits into my family picture or if she does.

  • Lynne: I checked Roots Ireland and I located the baptismal record for George. I also found two other children Anne and Gerrard but no John. • When a woman appears in Griffiths, she's usually a widow. Don't know if that helps at all.

  • I was wondering if she was Richard's mother, or maybe she was married to a brother of his.

  • I have a Rennick tree who has a Richard Frith Rennick born 1815 d,1865.
His Mother was Margaret which Mary can be a shortened version of. No other info on Richard but it's only because I've not worked on this tree for a long time.

It's a tree I have from my Mom but we could never figure out how our own Rennick's fit in to it. It was sent to her years and years ago and she was told it was our Rennick family.

  • I searched for a Richard Rennick/Renwick death in Ireland and Scotland in 1865 (and adjacent years) but did not find one. The 1857 Scottish marriage certificate should tell you whether his parents were alive or dead at that date. If dead it will say (dcd or deceased). If alive it’ll say nothing. Scottish officials were pretty meticulous about recording that.

  • William,

I’ll ask our co-ordinator if she can find someone to meet you that day. Have you filled out the visit form on our website? If not, please do.

Note that if you are hoping to view the original church records at Clogher Cathedral, they aren’t held there. My guide to church records says the originals are in the RCB library in Dublin, with a copy in PRONI in Belfast. I don’t think the cathedral holds any old records now at all.
