In the course of searching for great grandfather John Slowey and family we have developed a number of theorie. Two of the more possible are presented below.

Hyp #1  In Armagh in Griffith's Val one finds Hugh Slowey on William St. in the townland of Tavanagh and Elizabeth Davidson on Marley St. in neighhboring Corcrain. According to the Irish Times the parish Drumcree containing Tavanagh and Corcrain  is the only parish in the whole of Ireland that contains both a Davidson and a Slowey household. Elizabeth was probably a widow since she is Head of Household. So my question is this: Did Hugh Slowey have a son, John, and did Elizabeth Davidson have a daughter, Elizabeth, who met, mingled, married and eventually became my great-grandparents

Hyp #2  At some point In 1818/1819 Felix O'Neill and Bridget Slowey met and mingled and nine months later on 1 November 1819 John Slowey/O'Neill made the scene .Fast forward now to 7 April 1868 and the SS Britannia in New York Harbor by way of Glasgow and Londonderry . On the passenger manifest are

# 140 Felix P. O'Neill     24         Ire.

# 141 John Stoey           27        Scot.

#142  Bridget Stoey       25        Scot.

 #143  James Stoey         2         Scot.

# 144  John Stoey            4m       Scot.

The hypothesis is that John and Bridget above are my great grandparents These are of course not the John, Bridget and Felix of 1819 but perhaps John is the grandson of John (1819), Bridget's maiden name is Davidson (two US records call Elizabeth, Bridget), and Felix P. O'Neill is a family friend and is somehow descended from Felix(1819).

Another passenger list from a different source correctly spells the surname "S-l-oey".  John and Bridget's ages are correct. The 1880 census says that James is 15, putting his birth year at 1865. However the 1870 census says he is 6 which puts his birth date in 1864. For the lack of a birth certificate the point is open. John, Jr. is harder to explain since the second child is known to be a baby named Elizabeth.

If there are volunteers out there in IrelandXO-land who could help me to prove or disprove either of the hypotheses above we would be most gratified.
