My great great grandfather was Patrick Nulty, occupation baker. My great grandfather Bernard (Bryan) William Nulty (1842-1892), his wife Mary Smyth (1844-1899), married June 23, 1866, Trim, Meath Ireland.

They immigrated to America in1871 with their son Patrick Joseph (1867-1904), lived in Newark, New Jersey. Bernard founded a branch of the Fenian Brotherhood and was the author of The Patriot Cheif and other Poems, published in 1880. All three are buired in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in East Orange, NJ

Great grandmother's father was Patrick Smyth, his ocvcupation listed a Carman.

I have been unable to obtain any information regarding my great great grandmothers nor have I located my great great grandparents final resting place.

Anyinfrmation regarding these two family will be great appreciated.

Thank you,

  • Carol:

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1845 baptismal record for a Mary Smyth in the Oldcastle RC records.  The fathers name was Pat and the mother was Ann. Possibly this is your ancestor.

Roots is a pay site to view a transaction of a church record.

  • There were many Smyth families in the early 1800s in Co. Meath. My 5x great-grandmother was Elizabeth Smyth b.c.1760 m. James Farmer.  They lived in Clonmellon R.C. Parish, in the Killallon & Oldcastle civil parishes, though I'm not sure there wasn't more than one family I'm confusing.  There are children baptized in the parish with the same parent names from 1778 - 1841, which is physically impossible for Elizabeth.  Additionally, one of their grandchildren married needing a 3rd class marriage dispensation from the church, meaning they were 2nd cousins, sharing great-grandparents.  And one of that couple's male children married a Smyth before emigrating to the US.  I have a DNA match with a US descendent of that couple.  I've been trying to find out more about this family, have found some information but with the large amount of Smyths, but I'm afraid I have families confused.  My locations are Killallon, Oldcastle, possibly Herbertstown/Harbourstown.  I am DNA tested and on GEDmatch.
