Hello Everyone:

I recently discovered that my Great Grandfather Edmond Casey (Edward when he came over to America, Philadelphia, PA specifically) emigrated from the townland of Derrynanool, Mitchelstown Parish in Co Cork around 1900 or so.  He was the youngest of eight children of William Casey and Mary Moher.  I don't know whether other family members came over with him or not.  I am looking for anyone descended from the children of William Casey (born 1837) and Mary Moher (born 1843).  I also know that William Casey's parents were John Casey and Elizabeth 'Ellen' Lines.  Any information would be helpful.  I hope to contact any Casey's living in Mitchelstown with possible information.  I appreciate anyone's help.  Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Kirk D. Casey

The civil parish is actually Marshalstown. Mitchelstown is the registration district and long ago was the Poor Law Union.

I checked the Tithe Applotment listing for 1831 and there was a widow Casey in Derrynanoole townland. Possibly the mother of John? http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004625698/004625698_00013.pdf

The 1852 Griffiths Valuation survey head of household listing shows two Casey records for Derrynanool townland. A Thomas Casey and a John Casey. I assume that John is the father of William based on your message.

I found the marriage index record for William Casey and Mary Moher. They were married in 1871. www.familysearch.org has a number of baptismal records for the children of William and Mary. If you want a copy of the marriage record which would show the name of Mary's father and where she lived, you can write to www.groireland.ie  Fill out their form and provide the year, registration district and volume and page number.

  • Thank you very much, Roger.  You've given me alot of information to go through and I very much appreciate it.  I had no idea William's occupation on top of everything else.  I will definitely be doing further research with all of this new info.  Again, my very sincere thanks.
