My gggrandparente were John Flood, born circa 1799 and Mary Hand born circa 1798, both from County Meath. They came to Canada in 1827 and I cannot find any information prior to 1827. Hope someone might recognize their names. Thank you. Maureen

  • Hi Maureen

There are 6 birth / baptism records of John Flood 1798 + - 3 years in Meath on www.rootsireland.ie/

There are 3 for Mary Hand in the same years.

I see your tree on ancestry.com has the marriage as Nobber Meath 5 feb 1823 & John's death in Northumberland Ontario 28 April 1877 & his father as James.

I searched the births/baptisms again with father James in the search criteria but got no matches!

I also searched for the marriage record on rootsireland but didn't find it; when I checked the source of the info that they married as above it was Ireland Selections of Catholic Marraiges & Banns 1742-1844

    http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=IrishCatholicMarriages&h=670838&ti=0&indiv=try&gss=pt&ssrc=pt_t42650106_p19849524214_kpidz0q3d19849524214z0q26pgz0q3d32768z0q26pgplz0q3dpid

However the record gives Mary's surname as CONEL! This record is on rootsireland. It MAY have their parents' names (some do / some don't)

So rootsireland has some potential if the father's name is not James and Mary was Conel not Hand.

  • Hi Col, not sure if I ever thanked you for your information. Mary's obituary lists her as Mary Hand, wife of John Flood but I have learned that all obits are not correct. Thank you again. Maureen
