Hello Rita, I have been looking at the marriage of Michael and Bridget where she is 19 in 1874 but can see no really suitable birth for her with father Michael on baptisms in some subscriptions sites I but Roots Ireland is not letting me search for some reason tonight.

Her address and she is not working is Bohernamore, Ardee, see here for https://www.townlands.ie/ it is almost beisde Mandistown. Assume she lived here but can find no record for Kirk here is Griffiths Valuation for checking. Bohernamore does not come up as a place on it. However Bohernamoe does I just discovered and no Kirk or Kirke in it but believe it or not a Bernard Corcoran, coincidence or something to think about I do not know but no suitable Corcoran in Meath at all, http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameS…;

The only possible birth for a Kirk is in Monaghan to a Michael and a McArdle but the name is Anne and mother Bridget McArdle, this is in 1855 so not on the button for age or name either, this birth is recorded as "illegitimate" on the register but again Monaghan is a good bit away about 40 to 50 miles, both parents are named so it was not an unknown father rather a surprise I imagine, but might explain why no siblings found by me anyway. 

Also no luck in a suitable place for a Matthew Corcoran father with son Patrick, this is also unusual unless hewas born in a parish that did not keep records or they were lost, no sigh of siblings either to suit..

Ballapousta cementery is online for the new cemetery but no Corcorans in it, new however indicates old so will try to find out more about it, however it is not in my collection of grave records.

I am a bit disappointed we can not locate other records from your information, how ever I will endeavour to find out some more, I live about 15 miles from Ardee and if in the area will see if there is an old cemetery to look at. 

I assume you have decided to stay in Navan, so a nearby attraction on the world heritage list is here, full tour takes about 3 hours I believe. https://www.newgrange.com/

Oh my goodness, Pat!!!  I just saw your post and all your hard work!  Can't thank you enough!!  My cousin gave me the information about Matthew Corcoran being buried in Ballpousta Cemetery.  I don't know where he got that.  I see that you say you were "looking at the marriage of Michael and Bridget."  Do you mean Patrick and Bridget?  I loved the marriage record!   I do have a copy of a marriage certificate for them.  It says The Diocese of Armagh  Parish of Ardee.  I don't have any birth information for Bridget, but I do know she died at age 31 of peritonitis....the poor thing.  She left seven children!  We will be staying in either Slane or Drogheda...haven't finalized plans yet.  All I really want to do on this trip (our first and probably our last) is visit Newgrange and take a look around Mandistown and Ardee.  Of course, we will do many of the other touristy things and visit places from Killarney and Galway.  I should mention that I think I will be able to get my grandmother's birth certificate from records on this site:

Rita when I was searching I noticed a Mandistown Farmhouse and if you search it you get hotel booking sites, oddly it does not appear to have a website or a Facebook page so not sure if it even exists, besides the hotels in Drogheda and Slane which are fine the bit i know of, there are various Bed and Breakfasts but the one here which does not do evening meals to my knowledge was the main residence of the Foster Family back in the day they were big shots, the sort of owned most things, see http://www.collonhouse.com/ it is about 4 miles from Ardee and I am fairly sure there are places in Ardee too.

Any idea why neither of us could find birth or baptimal records for Bridget Kirk?  The record you found for the illegitimate birth in Monaghan does list the baby's father as Michael and our Bridget Kirk's father is listed as Michael on the marriage record.  A mystery....

Thanks again for all the new information. 

I did consider B & Bs closer to Mandistown, but we are arriving inDublin in the very early morning hours.  I had to book a hotel for the night before our arrival so we would be able to go to our room as soon as possible.  I didn't think a B & B would be able to accomodate us in that way.

Rita, civil records only commenced here in 1864 for all so prior to 1864 we are totally reliant on church records and where they exist it is great but there are gaps or just no records so we have to make a leap of faith and then hope we know the parents names to ensure we have confirmation. This is why we have no records for a baptism, Roots often has some not on Irish Genelaogy civil records or on the NLI site or other subscription sites, throw in different spellings or transcription errors and we start getting lost so the illelgitimate birth is a long shot as is the lack of siblings to those parents. 

I am surprised to find no baptisimal records though as those areas were well recorded it appears to me so maybe they were somewhere else although I search all counties I the lack of the families in the area during Griffiths is another oddity to me, I have the same issue for my mothers lot but there are more reasons, Church of Ireland records were in the main the ones lost and I think they work for a family with a private chapel so the record may be still out there.
