Hello, can anyone help please ? I am trying to locate my Gt. Grandfather & his family. His name was JAMES NOLAN born 1823c in Queens Co. he was married to MARY TRACY born Tipperary 1830c. I have found that James & Mary had daughters born in RATHDOWNEY,  KATE born 1857, MARIA born 1863 and a son JAMES born possibly 1859 ? James senior is quoted as an Army Pensioner on the birth cert of  his son TIMOTHY born 1867 TEMPLETOUHY ( my Grandfather) I cannot find any army information for James Nolan either. I hope someone has the same family as myself and we can help each other. Sincerely, Bridget

    I searched www.rootsireland.ie for James Nolan born 1823 + - 10 years in Offaly but got no matches. However, there were 2 matches in 1823 + - 0 years (Wicklow & Cork) and 20 matches in all counties for 1823 + - 2 years! There are also 2 matches for 1823 + - 1 year in Laois. Are you sure about King's County?

    There was no marrige of James Nolan and Mary Tracy in any county.

    There is a record for James Nolan with parents James & Mary in Laois - 1862 but the parish is Stradbally R C not Rathdowney.

    rootsireland.ie is a pay site but they have 40% off at the moment.

    I went to www.familysearch.org and found two possible additional daughters. (See below). Looks like the family lived on the Co. Tipperary/Co. Laois border and possibly moved around. I do some more checking. I did find a 1901 census record which possibly could be James and Anne . I will do some more checking.

  • Hello Col, thanks for your info, I have bought more units recently from rootsireland and still not having much luck with searching, I have Kate 1857 - Maria 1863 - Bridget 1865 - all born in Rathdowney,have found a James Nolan born March 1859 in Cournaganeen ( Bourney) Co. Tipperary,  son of James Nolan & Mary TREACY maybe no connection ? found the one you mentioned in Stradbally for birth of James Nolan but mother listed as Mary Pigott !  also found a marriage for  Mary Tracy 1864 in ATHY with James Nolan listed among the 4 possible grooms ? a possible death for Mary Nolan 1901 reg Thurles no deaths for James Nolan as yet but they were both in the 1901 census but not the 1911.
