Hello There,

My name is Thomas Maher. My great grandfather is Thomas Joseph Maher. He was born in Templemore, Tipperary on September 25th 1893. His parents were Michael and Mary Maher. He had a sister Johanna, and two brothers Michael and John. In the 1901 census it had them living at 17 Church Street. Then the 1911 Census had them living in 16 Church Street. Michael was born around 1851 and Mary around 1861.

Firstly, I was wondering if by chance if anyone is related to them or know where they left to.  Also, if anyone could find a baptism/birth record at any of the churches there. Another big help would be is the maiden name of Mary.

I really appreciate the help! Thanks so much!

  • Hi Thomas,

Not sure if I have any help but I have a Maher in my tree.

Hannah Maher, b.1793. Daughter of Con Maher and Betty Molloy, Dublin

Hannah married my GGGGrandfather and came to Sydney, Australia on the North Briton (Britain) in 1839 with a large family. They were from Kildare. We know Peter's father was Peter and they were both shoemakers but nothing earlier than that.

Hope this is a small light for you.

    Best wishes

  • Hello thomas,

I went to www.rootsireland.ie to look at church records online.  I found a baptismal record for a thomas Maher born Templemore in 1893, father MIchael Maher and mother Mary ?

You will need to pay to view this record but you should get the full names of his parents.  This will cost approx €3.

Once you have his parents names you can then search the previous years for a marriage record.  Hopefully this will yield up their parents' names.

You can also go to www.groireland.ie to order a civil birth cert for Thomas.  Once you have the parents names there you can then order a marriage cert.  Civil records began in 1864 in Ireland, so you shouldn't have any trouble in getting this info.

    Regards,

    Anne
