I am searching for any information on John Joseph Burgess born Tipperary Co about 1840 and his sister Elizabeth Burgess born County Tiperrary about 1840-43
In the 1901 Templemore Census Elizabeth lived at 5 Scotts Lane Templemore and was a retired National School Teacher aged 58 and a spinster. In the 1911 Templemore Census Elizabeth was 71 (?) and living at 11 Gaol St Templemore. I can find no further records for Elizabeth after this date including no death record.
I wish to find out who their parents were and where they were born, I'd also like to know more bout Elizabeth, her work and where she died.
Can anyone shed any light on this family please?

Hi A,
There is a baptism record of John 'Burgis' 1842 Tipperary on www.rootsireland.ie/
There is also 1 for Elizabeth 'Burges' but it is 1834
Illiteracy, transcription errors and evolution of surnames can explain the spelling of the above records
On rootsireland the parish can be checked; Elizabeth was from South Tipp so Templemore is not in the list but John was from North Tipp and Templemore is in the list but his record was not from there.
You might like to have a look at the site yourself but it does cost to view the records

Hello Col and Mary,
Thank you for your help.
Yes Mary this is the correct family tree but it only gets me so far and has been little help in trying to find the birthplace for John Joseph and Elizabeth Burgess and who their parents were. The De La Burgess needs verifying and I'm not sure how it connects or whether in is a myth. The De la Burgess who swam the English channel does not fit in in regard to time and location.
I'll follow up on those two leads Col, thank you. Interestingly, John and Elizabeth born around the 1835-1845 mark were both fully literate. Was this common in Tipperary in this time?
Can anyone advise on whether it is possible to access personal records of National School Teachers in Tipperary in the 1860 -1900 period? Would those records reveal parents names and or birth place?
I know that Elizabeth Burgess, spinster, was a National School Teacher - school mistress - in Ballycahill National School near Thurles during that period. How could I go about accessing the records if they would be helpful?
If anyone in Templemore comes across a death record or burial for Elizabeth Burgess post 1911 I would be most interested as I cannot find where and when she died. I believe she was catholic.
Thank you for your replies and best wishes
Ail

I have finally had some good fortune - with help from a kind friend we have found the death record for Elizabeth Burgess.
She died in Dec 1917 in Templemore and is registered as Bessie Burgess.
Is there a register of catholic graves in Templemore?
