Looking for information on how to best research Edward Gavan, Woodstock, County Mayo, born Oct. 1864 +/- 10 years. Emmigrated to England 1880's. Married a Murphy in England. She was from the Woodstock area also. Have the marriage certificate but cannot find information on Edward Gavan.

Looked at www.familysearch.org and found an 1865 civil birth index record for an Edward Gavin in the Claremorris registration district (which includes the parish of Crossboyne which includes Woodstock). Also found a baptismal index record for the same Edward showing his parents were William Gavin and Mary Walsh. Not sure if this is your Edward. You can write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the civil record.
