Patrick Mcgreal/Mcgrail C1831 married Mary Lamb c1847. I would like to find their marriage which I believe took place in County Mayo. Can anyone help? This couple were both Roman Catholics . Patrick was an agricultural labourer and could have possibly been married twice. I would like to know all about the Lamb family members prior to the marriage.

Is there any information on any of the marriages,or any of the children from a first marriage ?

The family of Patrick and Mary lived in Lancashire ,England from 1881 onwards.  At  some point Patrick and Mary lived in Foxford and registered theri children at Westport ,County Mayo. I am fully aware of the children that are registered to Mary Lamb and Patrick Mcgreal but would appreciate some background information on first possible marrriage and the place/ year /registration of any of the marriages and children from the first marriage.

  • There is a record on rootsireland.ie of the marriage of Patrick McGrail to Mary ? (not Lamb)  in 1840 in Mayo. (I searched births/baptisms 1850 + - 10 years)

There are 4 records of baptisms / births for Mary Lam (no b) in Mayo 1842 1851 & 1865 X 2 which are all a bit late unless the marraige above was his first.

I have just found a record on rootsireland.ie for Patrick McGREAL to Mary Lamb in 1859 in Sligo.

I then tried baptisms/births for Mary Lamb born in Sligo and got 2: 1819 & 1889.

If you think this is your Mary you could purchase the record (rootsireland.ie is a pay site) which would give you her parents' names and the parish. I checked the Tithe Applotments (free search 1823-37) but there were no Lambs in Sligo.

There are public member trees (Hardisty) on ancestry which have Patrick born 1822 but I could not find this record. However, in the Scottish Census 1851 & 1861 he is aged 29 & 39 respectively so 1822 seems right. The tree also has Patrick's father as John born in 1795 in Mayo. I searched rootsireland baptisms/births for Patrick McGrail with father John born 1822 + - 20 years but got no results. However I searched for McGreal same years and father John & got 3: Roscommon 1833 & 1834 & 1841 in Mayo. The parish was not Foxford or Westport however.

I thought Patrick & Mary may have married in Scotland but couldn't find a record. I couldn't find Mary Lamb on any of the ancestry trees to get her parents' names but perhaps you could try this angle if you haven't already done so.

  • My great grandmother Bridget Sillas emigrated to South Australia in 1855.

Married my great grandfather Robert McIntosh in Sydney 1858.

Would like to know of her family etc.

  • Do you have the marriage record from NSW BDM's (reg no 246/1858)?

Ideally it would have the parents' names and Bridget's age at marriage so we have a birth year.

With that info you can search rootsireland.ie for the birth record and parents' marriage.

You can purchase a transcript of the marriage cert for $18 or the original for $31.

I couldn't find them on the Australian Electoral Rolls or Census.
