Our Michael Hastings was married in 1826 to Bridget Stewart in Oughaval Parish. I haven’t been able to find my ancestor’s baptisms, nor her siblings in the 1826 to 1850 timeframe, but believe they may have been from around the Drummin townland. The were found in the 1851 census in Liverpool England, with the family. They left one son that I know of, Edward, behind in Liverpool and I’ve traced at least one descendant. My own ancestor, Sarah, left in 1855 with her mother, Bridget and a sister Margaret (born in 1849 in Liverpool) and a brother, James. They landed in New Orleans, Louisiana. The women traveled up the Missisippi and Missouri Rivers to Lexington Missouri by 1860, where I found them in the census. The head of the household, Michael was there, along with son Thomas, and his brother-in-law, Patrick Stewarts family. (James and another brother, Peter, were never found after immigrating). In twenty years of searching, and one visit to Ireland in 2010, hasn’t filled in much more of the story of this family. I’m interested in hearing from anyone that may be connected to the Hastings (by whatever spelling) and Stewart families of this area.
