I am looking for information about Peter and Bridget Grady, born about 1800. They may have lived in the parish of Kilmovee, Oughaval or Kilcolman. Their son Patrick emigrated to Canada before 1851.

Hi Mark
The only records on www.rootsireland.ie/ for the marriage of Peter Grady to Bridget (no surname specified) in Mayo are a bit late for people born in 1800: they are 1845 & 1875 (2)
However there is a baptism record of Peter Grady 1826 Mayo so maybe the 1845 marriage could be the one
I checked both records to see if they were from the 3 you mentioned but neither was
You need to purchase credit to view the full record on rootsireland but it will have the parish ans MAYBE the fathers' name

Hello Col,
Thank you for the information. I found one record that shows Patrick Grady, my great-great-grandfather, was born in Mayo, Ireland. He died in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada in 1885, age 66, so he was born about 1820. Again, his parents were Peter and Bridget. They were Roman Catholic. I do not know when Patrick left Ireland but I believe Peter and Bridget did not leave Ireland. The names of Patrick's brothers may have been Michael, John, Francis and Bernard.
I also have one record that shows Patrick's wife was Mary (Ann) Nevin, also born In Mayo, about 1835. Her parents were Patrick Nevin and Margaret Hunter. I believe Mary, her parents and her brother James arrived in Canada in the late 1840s.
Any further information is appreciated.

Hi Mark
No further joy I'm afraid.
The only match I could get on rootsireland was for a baptism of a Mary Grady with parents Peter & Bridget born 1814 in Galway.
There are 74 Gradys in the Tithe Applotments 1823-37 (free to search online) but no Peters
Finding Irish ancestors is a challenging game!

Hi Col Caff,
I have a lof of family from Murrisk, parish of Oughaval, and the Grady name was very much around them at the time of the Griffiths there. My family is in Lecanvey now, but at the time of the griffiths I took a look and there is a Peter Grady along with a Patrick Grady listed around my family, the Geraghtys, there in Bellateen. In fact, my second great grandfather Michael Geraghty was baptised in May of 1846 there and his godparents were a Patrick Ruddy and Bridget "Gready" (pronounced Grady). Michaels parents were Michael Geraghty and Mary Hynes. Maybe that is where your family is from. Many of my family left and went to Philadelphia. So you have a Peter, Bridget and Patrick Grady/Gready found all in one place. Hope this helps.

Further to my earlier posts about my great-great grandfather's parents (Peter and Bridget Grady), I recently found information about the 1876 death of a Peter Grady in the Ireland Civil Registrations Index. His age at death was 76 and occurred in Westport, Mayo, so this suggests a possible link to my great-great grandfather, Patrick Grady, born about 1820 and probably in Mayo. Can you find any more information related to Peter's death in 1876 or the death of a Bridget Grady in or near Westport in the late 1800s? Thank you.
