According to records held, MICHAEL MANLY (sometimes shown as MANLEY) was born in County Mayo. His parents were JAMES MANLY a shopkeeper, and CECELIA MORRIS.
MICHAEL was residing at Portumna, in the County of Galway, when he married MARGARET WHELAN at the Roman Catholic Chapel at Portumna in January, 1865. The couple came to Australia later that year.
Any information on Michael Manly / Manley and his family would be gratefully received.

Hi there,
Could you please post your message here:http://www.irelandxo.com/group/portumna-galway
It would make a big difference if you knew what part of County Mayo they were from.
You could try checking the civil registration records at the General Register Office (GRO) here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm (records only start from 1864).
You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.
Without having some idea of what part of Mayo they were from, I am unable to direct you to parish church records.
As you know that James Manly was a shopkeeper, you could try consulting the trade directories called J. Pigot & Co. or Slater's directories. These can be checked here: http://www.failteromhat.com/slaterc.php or here: http://www.censusfinder.com/irish-census-records4.htm
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,
Sinead Cooney

My grandfather was a Michael Manley born in Mayo in 1831. He married in 1871 to Mary Anne McCourt, and they moved to Britain. Would love to know more and be in touch with relatives. Not sure where in Mayo, however I believe the grave in Crossmolina may be his parents.
I am confused as grave stone states : Michael Manly Bally Corroon. Help and if you think related please let me know.

I am looking for a Michael Manley born 1831 County Mayo, not sure of the town. I believe graveyard in Crossmolina may be his parents but not sure as marking says Michael Manley Bally Corroon and his wife Mary Manley. My Grandfather was Michael born 1831 and married my grandmother 1871 in Down. Everyone is gone and we have nothing but the name and birth year to go on, can you advise what this Bally Corroon means and give me any info you may have.
I certainly appreciate.
