Thank you for the record.  It didn't give me much help but at least I have a record showing that I was on the right track with the right names.  I am mostly looking for birthdates or at least a death date for Catherine Neary or Timothy Foley and his wife Ann Chute.  I will keep looking everywhere.  Thank you again.

Our local volunteer has asked that I give you the following information:

Catherine Neary/ Nary died 14th august 1882 of phthisis Timothy married again on 13th October 1889 to Honoria Murphy. The family lived in Castlebar St in the 1901 and 1911 census. Timothy died on 14 March 1914. Patrick and Sarah Gavin  had a son Austin on 22 July 1914 when they lived on Peter St.and some of his children are still in Westport.

Thank you.  With that info I can really do some research.  I was stuck without any vitals to go by.  I know all about Austin and his family.  All his brothers and sisters info I have, I just could not get anywhere with Timothy.  Thank you again.  

You folks are amazing. My Foleys left Mayo sometime before 1812. My great-great-great grandfather was born in Listowel, County Kerry, and I am not sure how or why they went there. When you ask my American relatives where the Foleys came from, they say Mayo. Yet their tombstones here in Wisconsin say they are from County Kerry. They came on the Robinson Expedition, we believe. I can pick up William Foley, Sr. b. 1812 in Listowel, when he hits Binghamtom NY and his wife Marcella McCormick gave birth in 1842 to William H Foley Jr. The entire family moved to Wisconsin. They were farmers and merchants. My hunch is that William Sr., who was called a reduced farmer, was at one time a merchant. I will post a query in the County Kerry group.

Trust me I know how hard it is to research the Foley linage.  Peace of advice is to be careful!  I got turned around quite a few times thinking it was my  linage but it wasn't.  There are many Foley's with the same names and family members names that lined up but it wasn't the correct line.  So please be careful when researching the Foley line.

Can you ask that volunteer where Hanoria and Timothy got married so I can get the marriage record and the names of her parents?  Tried to find it but unable to locate it.  I do have all their children's names and dates from that marriage.  I had also found a census record where timothy was in the hospital.  Tell her Thanks for all the help.

in the Union of Westport in the County of Mayo

Sunday 13th October 1889

Timothy FOLEY;  39 years; widower;  ......painter;  Castlebar St., Westport; father Timothy Foley, blacksmith

Honoria MURPHY;  20 years; spinster; dressmaker; Castlebar St., Westport; father Michael Murphy, farmer

Married in R.C. Chapel of St. Mary's, Westport by Michael Higgins

The first part of Timothy's occupation might be brick or french but I'm not confident about either. 

I'm puzzled about why Timothy Foley was baptised in Dublin if he was born in Westport.

A baby was normally baptised in the place where he was born. Catholic parents would have their baby baptised within a few days of birth. 

I was also puzzled that according to your post, Timothy Foley was baptised in Dublin on 12th April 1850, almost 8 months before Timothy Foley was born in Westport on 4th December 1850! On a second and more careful reading of your opening post, I realised that it was the American format of writing dates which had confused me. It's better, for clarity to write months in words.

Westport baptism register for 1840's & 1850's is "out of date order". In other words it's a mess. Kilmoremoy baptism registers have a gap August 1849 - June 1851. These imperfections are typical of church registers in Mayo in that era. 

According to Timothy's census returns he was born in Dublin, not Mayo. He gave his age as 50 in 1901 and 62 in 1911. 

The hospital census return for 1911 said he had something wrong with one of his eyelids. The name of the disease began with E and ened in "ioma". "E _ _ _ thelioma"?

His wife's name was written Hanoria on 1901 census and daughter's name Hanoria. She was Norah on 1911 census with daughter also Norah. 

Timothy's cause of death was senile debility. I wonder if it was connected to his work, breathing in paint fumes for decades. Paint contained lead. According to the death registration he was 67. Informant was his wife who gave her name as Honor. She made her mark, didn't sign her name. 

It's possible that Anne Foley, Timothy's mother may have been Hanoria, Honoria, Honor, Hannah or Nancy on records. 

There are Anne Foley death registrations in Dublin but image isn't available for early ones. She may have died before civil registration of deaths began in 1864. Did Timothy have siblings?
