The facts I have are My Great Great Grandfather was born about 1824 in County Mayo to Malachi Kittredge and wife Hannorah (Garvey) Kittredge.  He married Bridget Toole or O'toole date unknown. Had a daughter Bridget Kittredge abt 1855... and left Ireland for Massachussets United States. They had several other children in Clinton, Mass.  I found one paper that said he married Bridget in Innesderry but I have no idea where that is... any help on this family line and where they were from would be so greatly appreciated!

  • The townland is likely Inishderry in Kilcommon civil parish which is in northwest Co. Mayo.

  • I looked at my detailed maps of Ireland to find Inishderry. Inishderry is actually a three acre island about 4-5 miles off the coast and to the east of the town of Belmullet Not sure if people lived on that island in the 19th century but certainly there would not be a church on the island. I also checked all other townlands in Mayo which ended with "derry" .  No other townland name was close to Innesderry.

  • Hi

Just looking at the names there, they are very familiar with the Louisburgh area (Kittredge would now be Ketterick)

Since Innis would indicate an Island I wonder if they came from somewhere around the Clew Bay area, where O'Tooles is also a very common name, as is Garvey.

This is a good database for the Kilgeever area, you might see something here
