Hi,

I am searching for my GG Grandparents, who both moved to Walsall in England and list their birthplace as Mayo.

They are Patrick Flynn born 1831-41 and Mary Gorman born 1931-1841(although Mary does seem to think there is a 10 yr age gap)

By 1859 they are married and in Liverpool where they have 2 children Patrick and Mary born 1859 and 1860 both born in Liverpool.

They move to Walsall and go on to have the following children- Catherine,John,David,Michael,Martin,Ann,Thomas and Winifred.

I have no idea what part of Mayo they are from but have been trying to find out anything about them for the last 5 yrs.

I would appreciate any help or advice,

thanks for reading this,

brid.

  • Hello S?amus,

I looked at www.rootsireland.ie and found a marriage record for a Patrick Flynn marrying a Mary Gorman in 1854 in Co. Westmeath.  It would be worth viewing I think?  Registration is free but it costs about €5 to view the record.

Hopefully this may contain the parents names and you would then be able to search the baptismal records.  Can't find anything online regarding them in Co. Mayo, but this doesn't mean that the reocrd is not there, just that it may not be online.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Seamus,

I can't give you a precise answer, but just a tip how you might find out.  As you GG grandparents were children at the time of Griffith's valuation, their parents would be listed on Griffiths.  You don't know their parents' names, but most likely if you find townlands where Flynns and Gormans both lived, that could be a starting point for further research.

You can get Griffith's Valuation here:

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameS…

What I have done is create a word document with all of the info I can grab and then start seeing if any of the names were still in the same place on the 1901 census - if so, these can't be your GG grandparents.
